It must be said that despite all the travel and a broken leg, the boys consider their ski trip to Furano in Japan an outstanding success. I guess you have to understand that we don’t really get powder snow in Australia … it just isn’t cold enough. So to play in powder for a week was a wonderful thing for these boys …
The runs were about 4 kms long, so they traveled up in the gondola out of the wind and chill factor for twenty minutes, which gave them time to catch their breath and rest a while. Even though it was very cold (-20′C), the snow was dry, not wet like it is in Australia, so they didn’t get wet and then even colder.
The snow was so heavy on the trees that sometimes big snowballs fell out of the trees and rolled down the mountain, making funny marks in the snow. This amused the boys! I think he looks so cold here; judging by the fact that he isn’t ‘wearing’ too much snow, I’d say the photo was taken at the beginning of the day.
They skied from 8 till 4 pm each day, then stopped for lunch! And the dad went back for a night ski one evening too.
This is my kind of ski trip … the boys out having fun, and me at home where it’s quiet, comfortable and warm. Mind you, if they are coming home with broken bones, I guess I shouldn’t let them out on their own!!!
